Event Details

The Man of La Mancha rides into the Maxine Theater this weekend for New West Ballet’s performance ofDon Quixote. Making a special appearance is Valley Center High School alumnus and one of San Diego Magazine’s “Seven Actors to Watch Out for in 2019”, Tyler Jiles. Other Valley Center performers include Scarlett Michalik, Emma Stehly, Glenna Torrence, and Mary Margaret Torrence.

Based on the classic 1605 novel by Miguel de Cervantes, Don Quixote is a lively tale of romance, chivalry, and idealism. Originally choreographed by Marius Petipa, Don Quixote features some of ballet’s most famous variations. Colorful, handmade costumes, original sets, and the Spanish-inspired score by Ludwig Minkus create a vibrant background for over 100 dancers to bring the tale to life.

Ranging in age from 3 to 75, Don Quixote’s performers include professional dancers, retired dancers, pre-professional dancers, students of all ages, and character actors from the community. New West Ballet’s motto is, “Train Like a Professional; Love Like Family” and those sentiments are apparent in every aspect of the production. New West Ballet has been bringing professional quality, full-length ballets to the community for over 30 years and is delighted to return to Valley Center for this colorful, energetic performance of one of classical ballet’s most enduring works.

Don Quixote runs this weekend only, June 29 and 30, at 2 PM at the Maxine Theater. Tickets are $15 in advance or at the door. For more information, visit www.NewWestBallet.com.
