Composting
Event Details
This workshop put on by Solana Center for Environmental Innovation will show you how to both protect your local watershed and produce a fantastic soil product from large animal manure.
Composting is easy and inexpensive. Improper disposal of manure is unsightly, breeds flies, may create health hazards, and can contaminate local streams and water sources. Using composted manure on your garden and landscaping will help your plants thrive and conserve water, too! This workshop will cover the basics of traditional composting as well as the particulars associated with composting horse manure on-site.
Our site provider, Hoofs and Woofs Animal Rescue, is dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and re-homing serviceable equines and others. Nestled into a hill in Valley Center, Hoofs and Woofs Animal Rescue offers sanctuary to a number of special needs creatures and is home for those awaiting adoption.
The workshop will cover the following:
Basic composting
Manure composting
Manure management
Preventing odors and flies
Benefits of composting
Protecting local water sources
This composting workshop is funded by the County of San Diego. Please register at Solana Center’s website.
